Obituary: Richard Carl Wolters Sr.

Richard Carl Wolters Sr. passed away on April 7, 2020 in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Richard was born on August 5, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to Wilma Inez Tracy and Herold John Wolters.

As a child, Richard lived in Kansas City, Missouri, the family then moved to Tillamook, Oregon. Richard dropped out of high school to join the military. He served in the United States Air Force during the Cold War. 

The Air Force took him many places including Germany, Greenland and Paris. 

After his service in the Air Force, Richard earned his high school GED and then received an associate degree.

Richard worked in auto mechanics and auto sales, he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, precision millwright and he also worked as an MSHA and OSHA Instructor. During this time, he lived in many places including Green River, Wyoming, Norwalk, California, Los Angeles, California and finally settling in Battle Mountain, Nevada. 

Richard married Mary Loretta Parker on April 9, 1971. The two were married for 48 years, until divorcing in 2019. 

Richard served as a Deacon at the Nazarene Church in Roseburg, Oregon from 1972 to 1984. He was a choir leader at the Monroe Avenue Baptist Church in Green River, Wyoming from 1984 to 1988. 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Battle Mountain, NV from 1988 to 2008. He then joined the Fellowship Baptist Mission in 2008 where he worshiped until the time of his death. 

At most of these churches he served as a Sunday school Teacher, was a member of the Pastor Search Committee and volunteered for Vacation Bible School every summer! 

He loved going to any and ALL church organized events, spending time with family (especially grandchildren), watching sports – golf, football, baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. 

He also loved sharing the word of the Lord. Richard was always helping others before helping himself and making sure everyone – especially family – were safe and secure and he never asked for anything in return.

Richard is survived by Mary L Wolters, his ex-wife, of Battle Mountain, NV. His children; Forrest “Chip” Theuret (Nampa, ID) LaDonna and Bobby G Theuret (Battle Mountain, NV), Richard C Wolters Jr. (Battle Mountain, NV) and Kristi and Eric Nelson (Myrtle Creek, OR). Grandchildren; Eric McCain, Shannon McCain, Vincent McCain, Johnathan Smith, Rebecca Nelson and Jillian Smith all of Myrtle Creek, OR; Misti Theuret Del Rio and Katrina Palmer of Nampa, ID, Stacy Brainard, Mary Wolters, Kailee Wolters all of Battle Mountain, NV, Matthew Theuret (Elko, NV) Ricard III and DJ Wolters (Carlin, NV). Great – Grandchildren; Briannah Davis (Spokane, WA), Alyssa Palmer, Elijah Palmer and Justin and Reggie Del Rio all of Nampa, ID, Jeremiah Wolters and Nash Brainard of Battle Mountain, NV. 

His sister JoAnne Wolters of Albany, OR. Richard is also survived by these family members; Cynthia Lynn Millard, James Nelson Millard Jr, Mary Celeste Millard, Deann Ruth, Jennifer Page, Michelle Wolters, Desirae Elise Wolters, Shannon Shane Wolters, Brenton Wolters. 

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Wilma Inez Tracy and Herold John Wolters. Brothers, Roger Wolters and Ray Wolters. Son, Claude “Bear” McCain and grandchild, Timothy Smith. 

Services for Richard Carl Wolters Sr. will be held at a later date due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
