Two of three suspects were arrested by the Winnemucca Police Department (WPD) after an individual reported being rubbed at gunpoint in front of his apartment in Weso Street on April 2, 2020 in Winnemucca.
The apprehended suspects include Justin Smartt, age 32 and Martin Williams, age 36.
As WPD officers arrived on the scene of the robbery, a white SUV was observed leaving the area and one person exited the vehicle and the vehicle drove away.
A traffic stop was attempted by officers with two male suspects still inside.
The vehicle led WPD and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a short pursuit to the area of Lay and South street where the vehicle stopped after hitting a large rock. Both suspects reportedly fled the vehicle and ran into an open field.
Williams was pursued by a WPD officer and fired a weapon at the officer and the officer returned fire. Williams was apprehended and taken into custody.
Following a visit at Humboldt General Hospital for treatment to a non-life threatening injury, Williams was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Detention Center (HCDC) on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, robbery with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer and possession of a firearm by ex-felon without bail.
After Williams was arrested, WPD officers loated Smartt, the second male suspect involved in the robbery. He was taken into custody without incident and transported and booked into HCDC on charges of kidnapping/first degree, domestic battery, resisting a public officer and possession of a firearm by ex-felon with a $274,140 bail.
It was unclear whether the third suspect in the incident was located or apprehended as of press time on Monday.
