Rain, cold weather play havoc with BMHS golfers

Mother Nature did no favors for the Battle Mountain High School girls golf team and the rest of the Northern 2A in Wells last Thursday.

A rainy and cold day saw the tournament reduced to nine holes after getting off to a late start in the morning.

Despite the conditions,  Battle Mountain played well.

Destiny Villanueva finished third, with a 57. She had a second-place score but lost the tie scorecard breaker.

Adriana Robles claimed sixth place with a 62 and Charly Gusky took ninth with a 64.

"This is the first time all year that every player placed within the top 10," said BMHS coach Jayson Cutler. "Next week we travel to West Wendover, where hopefully the weather is better."

The tournament in West Wendover is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m.

There are only three tournaments left on the schedule before the state tournament in West Wendover on Oct. 14-15.
