The Battle Mountain High School football team was back on the road Saturday night to take on Coral Academy at Wooster High School in Reno.
The Longhorns made quick work of the Falcons, scoring 34 points in the first quarter en route to a 62-8 win. Coral Academy is playing its first official year in the Northern 2A.
"The kids came out fast again this week,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala. “That was good to see after a long bus ride. You never really know what to expect on the first road game of the season."
Battle Mountain (2-0) forced a 3-and-out by the Coral Academy offense and when the Longhorns took over on offense Cody Ostler scored on the first play for a 6-0 lead.
Aldo Castellanos scored on Battle Mountain’s second play from scrimmage and the Longhorns converted the 2-point conversion for the 14-0 advantage. Battle Mountain added three more touchdowns in the opening 12 minutes for the 34-0 lead.
The Longhorns created a running clock in the second quarter with two more touchdowns to go in front 48-8 at the break.
Castellanos connected with Terrence Fetterly for a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. That was the only completion on the night for the Longhorns.
The final score was Brice Domagala on a defensive touchdown with a fumble recovery moving the score to 62-8.
Battle Mountain rushed for 438 yards in the game on just 19 carries for an average of 23.1 yards a carry. Castellanos had nine carries for 220 yards and three touchdowns. That included a 70-yard touchdown. Ostler had 174 yards on 7 carries and four touchdowns. His longest run of the night was 56 yards. Jose Guizar added 44 yards on three carries.
"These kids are starting to gel together and that's going to be key for the games later on in our season,” Domagala.
The Battle Mountain JV on 46-22 taking their season record up to 2-1 on the year.
Battle Mountain is back on its home field on Friday against West Wendover at 7 p.m. The Wolverines are 0-3 on the year with a 35-0 loss to White Pine and a 45-6 defeat to Pershing County.
