Warriors seventh-grade girls end season with three victories

The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade girls basketball team finished its season in style with three wins last weekend in Reno and Spring Creek.

Winnemucca traveled to Reno on Friday, Oct. 18, and doubled up Shaw Middle School in a 52-26 victory. Britian Backus equaled the total of Shaw with 26 points. Natalee Formby and Bailey Elordi each netted eight points.

Olivia Espinola added four points and Katee Cassinelli, Lauren Fettic and Allison Green each had two points. 

Winnemucca hit the road the following day and defeated Spring Creek’s team one. Backus and Trea Northrup paced the Warriors with nine and eight points, respectively. 

Fettic and Elordi each scored four points, Khloe Shorey, Formby and Cassinelli two each and Danyelle Scott one.

In the second game of the day against Spring Creek three, Winnemucca won 64-9. Elordi and Backus each reached 20 points with 27 and 24, respectively. Fettic and Elordi had four points apiece, Cassinelli three, Northrup two and Makenna Garcia one. 

"I'm really happy with how much they have improved this year as a team both defensively and offensively,” said WJHS coach Clay Sagers.
