Lowry boys shut out at Spring Creek

Coming off one of the biggest highs of the year with a four-goal comeback against South Tahoe, the Lowry High School boys soccer team suffered one of its biggest lows of the year, with a 6-0 loss at Spring Creek on Tuesday night.

The Buckaroos had won the first meeting 3-1 in Winnemucca.

About 10 minutes into the match, Spring Creek scored on a long goal by Patrick Pemelton that got over the head of Lowry goalie Angel Galarza.

In the 35th minute, Noah Rice took a crossing pass from Albert Lahoz and had his shot stopped by Galarza. However, Lahoz was there for the rebound and made the score 2-0. Three minutes later, Pemelton scored off a free kick to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Lowry made a push with its offense to start the second half, but could not find the back of the net. Spring Creek pushed the advantage to 4-0 in the 48th minute and added two goals in two minutes to account for the final score.

Despite the loss, Lowry is still tied for fourth place with North Tahoe at 8-6-2. The Lakers beat the Buckaroos earlier in the year and the two teams end the regular season against each other on Nov. 1 in Tahoe City, Calif.

Sparks leads the league at 14-0-1, while North Valleys (10-5-1) is second and South Tahoe (10-5-0) is third. Truckee is sixth at 6-7-2, followed by Elko (5-6-4) and Spring Creek (6-9-1).

Lowry travels to Elko on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match.
