Villanueva finishes fifth at 2A state girls golf championships

Battle Mountain's Destiny Villanueva finished fifth at the NIAA 2A State Girls Golf Championships held Oct. 14-15 at Toana Vista Golf Course in West Wendover.

Villanueva shot a two-day score of 232.

Teammate Adrianna Robles finished sixth overall with a score of 236.

Sage Ridge's Lelia Moassessi won the individual state title with a two-day total of 177. Incline's Shannon Hugar (191), West Wendover's Kayla Jones (224) and Sierra Lutheran's Mikalya Talkington (224) were second, third and fourth, respectively. Jones was awarded third place on the scorecard tiebreaker.

Wells won its second consecutive team state title with a score of 995 The Leopards had rounds of 487 and 508.

West Wendover (518-503-1,021) was second and Incline (527-507-1,034) placed third.

Sierra Lutheran (572-548-1,120) and Yerington (665-660, 1,325) rounded out the team scores.
