Lowry golfers close out regular season in Reno

The Lowry High School girls golf team closed out the regular season on Monday at Sierra Sage Golf Course in Reno.

Angelina Martinez paced the Lady Bucks with a round of 95, to finish fourth overall. Teammate Kaitlyn Hales also broke 100 and carded a 99 to place sixth. Bailey Hayes tied for seventh with two others and rounded out the Lowry scores at 101.

Hayes was named to the Northern 3A first team, while Martinez and Hales earned second-team honors. All three Lowry golfers will be headed to Boulder City for the NIAA 3A State Championships on Monday and Tuesday.

Elko, Truckee and Spring Creek will be sending full teams to southern Nevada.

Elko led the way in Reno with a 404, Spring Creek (431) was second and Churchill County (462) was third. South Tahoe (468) and Fernley (555) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Truckee’s Ryan Flynn was the low medalist at 78 and was the only Truckee golfer at the tournament. Flynn was also named the Player of the Year in the Northern 3A.

Spring Creek’s Emalee Ingram (90) earned the runner-up spot and Elko’s Chilz Negrete (92) and Caresse Basaraba (96) were third and fifth. 

The Northern 3A first team included Hayes, Basaraba, Negrete, Ingram. Truckee’s Annika Thayer and Elko’s Gabby Bement.

The second team included Hales, Martinez, South Tahoe’s Jenna Shortridge, North Valleys’ Fernanda Gonzalez, Elko’s AJ Anthony and Spring Creek’s Tiffany Sorenson.
