Battle Mountain football team loses first game of the season to American Falls in Idaho

After opening the season with four straight wins in the Northern 2A and scoring more than 42 points in each contest, the Battle Mountain football team suffered its first loss of the season this past Friday in Idaho.

The Longhorns played its annual non-conference game with American Falls, with the Beavers winning 62-12.

Battle Mountain dropped to 4-1 on the season but remained tied for first in the Northern 2A at 4-0 with Yerington. The Lions beat Pershing County 23-8 this past Friday in Lovelock.

Pershing County (3-1) is third in the Northern 2A and Incline and White Pine are each 3-2 and tied for fourth.

The top four teams advance to the Northern 2A Regional Playoffs on Nov. 8-9.

"The kids played hard, we just ran into a buzz saw this week and that happens sometimes,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala. "We'll learn from this, re-group and focus on the rest of our league season."

Aldo Castellanos threw for 150 yards and rushed for over 100 yards on the night. The leading receivers were Terrance Fetterly and Jose Guizar.

Fetterly caught a 35-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and Castellanos ran in a 3-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Battle Mountain celebrates homecoming this week and hosts North Tahoe on Friday at 7 p.m. The Lakers are 0-6 on the season and have scored just 10 points in six games.

The schedule gets tougher for Battle Mountain in the next couple of weeks.

The Longhorns travel to Yerington on Friday, Oct. 18, and host Pershing County on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m.

The regular season concludes with a road trip to Incline on Friday, Nov. 1.
