The Northern 3A girls golf season is quickly coming to a close and the Lowry High School girls were in action on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Bucks traveled to Dayton on Monday to play the tough Arnold Palmer-designed Dayton Valley Country Club. Dayton Valley annually hosts PGA qualifying.
Kaitlyn Hales led the group of three Lowry golfers with a round of 104, which was good for sixth overall. Bailey Hayes shot an 114 and Angelina Martinez finished at 117.
"The girls did not like Dayton," said LHS coach Savannah Talbott. "It's a tough course with a lot of water."
Truckee’s Ryan Flynn was the low medalist with an impressive round of 76 to help the Wolverines to the team title with a score of 403.
Elko’s Caresse Basaraba was second overall with a score of 94 and Spring Creek’s Emalee Ingram (95) was third.
Truckee’s Annika Thayer (97) and Elko’s Chilz Negrete (99) were the only other golfers to break 100 to place fourth and fifth, respectively.
Elko finished second in the team standings at 406, three strokes behind Truckee.
Spring Creek and Churchill County each shot 445 and South Tahoe (490) and Fernley (509) rounded out the team scores.
Hayes leads Lady Bucks
in Fallon
Lowry made the short trip from Dayton to Fallon on Tuesday to close out the road trip.
Hayes improved her score from the day before by 17 strokes to finish at 97 to pace the Lady Bucks.
Martinez was 19 shot better to finish at 98 and in seventh place and Hales carded a 101.
"The girls came back and played better," added the coach. "Fallon is a much easier course."
Flynn claimed the medalist honors again, shooting 73. Negrete was second with an 88 and Churchill County’s Addie Smith (91) placed third.
Ingram was fourth at 95 and Hayes tied for fifth with Thayer from Truckee.
Elko grabbed the team title at 391, with three players breaking 100. Truckee (400) was second and Churchill County (422) posted its best finish of the year in third place.
Spring Creek (435) and South Tahoe (472) rounded out the top five.
Lowry travels to Fernley on Tuesday and hosts the Northern 3A on Wednesday. The Northern 3A will make-up its canceled tournament in South Tahoe on Oct. 14.
The top three teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the NIAA 3A State Championships in Boulder City on Oct. 21-22. Truckee and Elko all but have two of the spots locked up.
Lowry will not take a full team to state but are hopeful to take Hayes, Hales and Martinez as individuals. The top six individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to state.
"If they keep playing like they are, we should get all three golfers to state," Talbott said. "Right now, the girls are first, third and fifth in the standings."
