Winter sports season gets going for Lowry and McDermitt

The 2019-20 winter sports season for Lowry and McDermitt high schools are under way.

 The Lowry boys basketball team will see its first action this Saturday in Reno.

The Buckaroos will take all three teams to scrimmage Reno High School.

The official start to the preseason is Dec. 6-7 at the Elko Invitational. Lowry will play Hunter High School on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. and Reno and Hug on Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.

Hug and Reno were part of the Northern 4A Regional Championships last year.

The Lowry freshmen and JV teams will be in Reno from Dec. 5-7 for the Damonte Ranch Tournament.

The Buckaroos make their home and Northern 3A debut on Tuesday, Dec, 10, against Fernley. The freshmen start at 3 p.m., followed by the JV at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.

The Lowry girls basketball teams will begin the season at the Spanish Springs Tournament in Sparks on Dec. 5-7. 

The varsity squad plays Galena on Dec. 5 at 3 p.m., Bishop Manogue on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and host Spanish Springs on Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. 

Spanish Springs is the reigning Northern 4A champion. The Cougars beat Bishop Manogue in the regional semifinals last year.

The Lowry freshmen and JV teams will also play in the Spanish Springs Tournament.

The Lady Bucks make their home and Northern 3A debut on Tuesday, Dec, 10, against Fernley. The JV start at 3 p.m., followed by the freshmen at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.

The Lowry wrestling team will make the long trip to Las Vegas on Dec. 6-7 to take part in he Green Valley Duals.

The Buckaroos host the Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Event Center on Dec. 20-21.

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team tips off the season in Reno on Dec. 5-7 at the Winter Classic.

Both the boys and girls teams will travel to Virginia City on Dec. 12-14 for the Comstock Classic.

The Lady Bulldogs, under first-year head coach April Wilson, are scheduled to make a return trip to Concord, Calif., for the West Coast Jamboree on Dec. 27-29.

McDermitt hosts Wells on Friday, Jan. 10. The girls start at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m.
