Lowry High School’s Anthony Cuevas and Johan Silva were named the Northern 3A boys Northern 3A all-league first team. The all-league teams are selected by the league’s coaches.
Cuevas, a senior, played a striker and Silva, a sophomore, was the Buckaroos’ top defender. In addition, Cuevas was named to the all-state first team and Bravo was a second-team, all-state selection.
Lowry finished the year at 11-10-2 overall and 9-7-2 in the Northern 3A ‘A’ division. The Buckaroos earned the fourth seed in the Northern 3A Regional Championships and beat South 4-3 in the opening round of the playoffs.
It was the first playoff win for Lowry since 2008. The Buckaroos eventually lost to Sparks in the semifinals. Sparks played in then state title game this year and lost 2-1 to Western.
North Valleys’ Gavin Owens and North Tahoe’s Benito Gonzalez were named the Co-Most Valuable Players. Sparks’ Jose Espana was chosen as the Coach of the Year.

Lowry’s Giovanni Sapien and Andrew Bravo were named to the second team. Both players were sophomores this season. Bravo was a midfielder and Sapien was a striker and midfielder.
The second team included Sparks’ Cesar Hernandez, Raul Ayala and Oswaldo Lopez; North Tahoe’s Viceate Morales and Angel Andrade; North Valleys’ Angel Wence; South Tahoe’s Isaac Sanchez and Adrian Lomeli-Mendoza; Truckee’s Ozzy Islas; Churchill County’s Cesar Molina-Peru and Incline’s Danny Perez.
The all-state first team was comprised of West Wendover’s Diego Cuevas; White Pine’s Jayden Brewer; Fernley’s Isaac O’Neal; Owens, Gonzalez, Avila, Salvador Hernandez, Ramirez, Meles and Hudson. The second team included Chavez, Omar Hernandez, McGany, Cesar Hernandez and Molina.
The honorable mention team included Elko’s Jose Ventura, Noe Guzman and Adrian Rodriguez; Spring Creek’s Cade Carson, Alex Estrada, Jacob Rios and Noah Rice; North Valleys’ Enrique Olivares, Hector Tadeo and Benjamin Romero; Sparks’ Andrew Villegas and Marlon Monreal; Truckee’s Edgar Munoz and Issac Iniguez and Churchill County’s Hamilton Sommer.
