Lowry's Connors named Northern 3A Player of the Year

The Northern 3A and all-state  awards for the 2019 softball season, selected by the league's coaches have been announced.

Lowry's Sydney Connors was awarded the Northern 3A  Most Valuable Player award. The senior was also named to the all-state, first team.

This season, Connors hit .581 with 10 home runs and 66 RBIs, in addition to adding 18 stolen bases to lead the Lady Bucks.

Lowry senior Madi McClellan and junior Sierra Maestrejuan  were named to the Northern 3A first team. 

Junior Kelcey Cooper and sophomore Mackenzie Salas-Begay were voted to the second team. 

McClellan hit .465 with five home runs and 40 RBI’s. Maestrejuan went .467, hit four home runs, and had 30 RBI’s. Cooper hit .441 with five homers and snared 13 stolen bases. Salas-Begay batted .400 and had a 14-8 pitching record for the Lady Bucks. 

The remainder of the Northern 3A first team included Skyler Gothan, Reese Jones, Macie Kirk and McKenna Montgomery from Fernley; Aleea Howe and Julie Rogacs from Dayton; Elko’s Jacqueline Pete and Breanna Whitted; Allie Thompson from Spring Creek, and Churchill County’s Savana Manha.

Lowry finished with a 20-16 record this season and came up one win shy of advancing to the state championship game against Pahrump Valley.

The rest of the second team 3A North squad was comprised of Dayton’s Marissa Hein, Elizabeth Vincent and Amanda Woitas; Alexis Schweer and Lauryn Guenin from Elko; Churchill County’s Ashley Agaman and Loren Fagg; Janeigha Stutesman from Spring Creek; Jocelynn Branson from Sparks; Abigail Abrahamzon from Fernley and North Valley’s Hunter Whitton. 

Honorable Mention was given to Ashlynn Roemer, Katelyn Bunyard and Olivia Victor from Fernley' Sparks’ Akosita TauFa’ao, Caroline Aguilar and Haylee Nelson; Aspen Mori and Makenzee Moretto from Fallon; Elko’s Kaitlyn Rizo and MaKenzie Ratliff; Skyler Curwen and Bri Lafontaine from North Valleys, Sydney McCarthy and Teagan Willianson from South Tahoe; Dayton’s Caleigh Onstott, Jaycee Freyensee from Spring Creek, and Truckee’s Miranda Parkhurst.

Dusti Houk from Dayton was voted the Northern 3A Coach of the Year.

Joining Connors and McClellan on the NIAA State first team were Reese Jones, Macie Kirk and McKenna Montgomery from Fernley, and Elko’s Jacqueline Pete. 

Along with Maestrejuan on the State second team were Dayton’s Julia Rogcacs and Alea McGill-Howe, Skylar Gothan from Fernley, Fallon’s Savana Manha, Allie Thompson from Spring Creek, and Elko’s Breann Whited.

Pahrump Valley's Cassondra Lauver was named the  3A State Coach of the Year. Pahrump Valley beat Fernley 13-10 for the state title.
