Battle Mountain’s Max Villanueva took part in the NIAA 2A Boys State Golf Championships on May 13-14 at Toana Vista Golf Course in West Wendover.
Villanueva carded rounds of 113 and 111 for a 224 over the two days.
Avry Tucker also qualified for the state tournament but didn’t play due to a personal decision.
“It was good to get Max in the state tournament as a freshmen,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “I think in the next couple of years, he will be competing with the best in the state for a medal so he needed to feel the pressure and the atmosphere of a high stakes tournament. He actually played very well overall but had a couple of big scoring holes each day that inflated his final score.”
Whittell won the state championship with a two-day total of 745. The Meadows was second at 755 and West Wendover (757) was third.
North Tahoe (758), Incline (763) and Needles, Calif. (801) rounded out the team scores.
Lake Mead’s Marcus Dolinar was the low medalist at 156, while North Tahoe’s Murphy Scott was the runner-up at 162.
The Meadows’ Justin Finseth (169) was third and Whittell’s Patrick Smorra (170) placed fourth. West Wendover’s Emilio Graham (177) and Benjamin Holloway(180) were fifth and sixth, respectively.
