Battle Mountain Junior High track closes out season

The Battle Mountain Shorthorn finished the season with its home meet on May 10 with 10 teams competing.  

The team ended the day with 22 personal bests, two season bests, and eight-first-place finishes.

Ben Disbro earned four personal bests in his events, with three of them first-place finishes to complete his eighth-grade year. 

He earned first in the shot put with a best throw of 32 feet, 2.75 inches, first in the discus with a throw of 117-6.2 and first in the triple jump with a leap of 27-5. He was third in the long jump with a jump of 13-10.

Jolena Ayers finished her junior high career with  three first-place finishes. 

She ran another personal best in the mile with a time of 5 minutes, 46 seconds. She won the 400 meters in a time of 1:11.44 and took first in the triple jump with a leap of 24-3. She finished the day in fourth in the long jump at 12-6.

Keira Hanson had a great year as a sixth-grader and finished with three personal bests.

She won the long jump with a distance of 11 feet. Hanson also leaped a best 23-3.5 to win the triple jump.  She was a surprise in the 100 meters earning second place with a new best time of 16.12.

Alex Martin earned two second-place finishes, one in the shot put with a throw of 16-11 and one in the triple jump with a leap of 16-3. He also had a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 8-10 for sixth place.

Alyssa Harris earned second-place honors in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 20-7.5. She earned a personal best in the discus with an eighth-place finish of 44-11.  Harris finished the day in 10th in the long jump at 10-1.

Shaelee Williams was second in the 800 meters with a time of 3:33.  She finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 19-0.5.  She earned a personal best with a 13th-place finish of 9-4 in the long jump.

Sariedy Navarette-Guizar finished second in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 1:27.28.  She was ninth in the 100 meters at 16.31.

Lilly Peterson ran her first 100-meter hurdle race and finished in third with a time of 19.62. She was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 12-2, sixth in the 200 meters at 32.87, and eighth in the 100 at 14.75.

Aden Payzant ran the 100 meters to earn third with a time of 13.87.  He was fifth in the 400 meters at 1:14.10.  

Julian Sosa ran a personal best in the 200 meters with a third-place time of 32.97.  He had a personal best in the long jump of 12-3 to earn sixth and he was eighth in the 100 meters at 14.34.

The boys seventh-grade 4x200 relay team of Aaron Morrow, Spencer Thompson, Julian, and Aden finished in third place with a season-best time of 2:07.78.

Sean Scherer was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:14.31. He jumped a personal best in the long jump of 13-1 to earn sixth place. He finished with an eighth-place outing in the 100 -meter hurdles with another personal best of 18.89.

The girls 4x100 relay of Shaelee, Sareidy, Keira, and Lilly earned fourth place with a time of 68.12.

Michael Lovelace was fifth in the shot put at 2510 and seventh in the discus at 57-3.

The boys 4x100 relay team of Ben, Spencer, Julian, and Aden finished fifth with a season-best time of 58.56.

Spencer Thompson earned sixth in the 400 meters at 1:14.66.

Neveah Offret earned a career best in the long jump with a distance of nine feet for seventh place. She earned a career best in the discus of 36-7 for ninth and ran another personal best in the 100 meters at 16.62 for 10th.

Aaron Morrow earned eighth place in the shot put at 19-8, 10th in the 100 meter at 15.36 and jumped a personal best of 9-1 in the long jump for 14th.

Shorthorns compete

in Winnemucca

Battle Mountain participated in the Winnemucca meet on May 2.

The team earned nine first- place finishes, 22 personal bests, and five season bests.

The team was led by eighth-grader Jolene Ayers, who earned five first-place finishes, with four of them being personal bests. 

Her bests came in the 400 at 1:10.02, 800 at 2:47.13, mile at 5:56.59, and the triple jump at 28-8.  She finished the day with a leap of 12’6” in the long jump.

Ben Disbro led the boys team by placing in five events, three of them first place.  He won the shot put with a throw of 31-8, the discus at 112 and had a personal best in the long jump at 13-8.  Disbro  also placed second in the high jump with a personal best of 4-6 and fifth in the 100 meters with another personal best at 13.83.

Sean Sherer had the final win for the Shorthorns with a personal-best in time the 400 with at 1:10.38. He was second in the long jump with another personal best of 12-11 and tied for third in the high jump with a personal best height of 4-4.  

Sixth-grader Keira Hanson had to compete with the seventh graders and still ended the day with two second-place finishes and two personal bests.  She leaped 10-2 in the long jump and 22-5 in the triple jump.

Braxton Nield earned second in the 400 with a personal-best time of 1:10.4.  He earned two third-place finishes, the first was in the long jump with a season-best leap of 12-10 and the 200 meters at 31.96.

Lilly Peterson earned a second in the long jump with a distance of 12-5, third in the 200 at 33.1, and fourth in the 100 at 14.84.

Shaelee Williams was second in the triple jump with a personal best of 19-11.  She was fourth in the 800 with a time of 3:30.6.

Aden Payzant was second in the 100 at 13.47 and fourth in the 400 with a personal-best time of 1:11.5.

Spencer Thompson earned two season bests. He was second in the 800 with a time of 2:58.62 and fifth in the 400 at 1:13.2.

The seventh-grade boys 4x100 of Julian Sosa, Antoine Powell, Spencer and Aden earned second-place honors by running a season best of 59.28.

Alyssa Harris placed third in the triple jump at 18-9 and sixth in the long jump at 9-5.

The girls 4x100 of Sareidy Navarette-Guizar, Shaelee, Keira, and Lilly earned third with a time of 65.64.

The eighth-grade boys 4x100 of Aaron Morrow, Jagger Whitlock, Braxton, and Ben were third with a time of 60.03.

The 4x200 of Braxton, Antoine, Julian, and Aden earned third place with a season best time of 2:05.29.

Michael Lovelace tied for fourth in the shot put with a throw of 253.

Jagger Whitlock was fourth in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 31.92 and sixth in the 400 with another personal best of 1:14.1.

Sariedy Navarette-Guizar was fourth in the 400 with a personal best of 1:27.28 and sixth in the 100 with another personal best of 16.12.

Aaron Morrow was fifth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 22-9.

Alex Martin was fifth in both of his events with personal bests in both of 60 feet in discus and 17-5 in the triple jump.
