Lowry baseball team finishes season in Truckee

The Lowry High School baseball team went to Truckee on May 4-5 to close out its season.

The league leaders and regional champions, beat the Buckaroos in all three games in the Sierra Nevada Mountains

Lowry managed to score a few runs in their 10-3 loss to the Wolverines on Friday, May 4. However, on  Saturday. May 5, Lowry lost the last two games  10-0 and 15-0 to finish the season with a 10-17 league record.

“Truckee is going to be real tough for anyone to beat in the playoffs, they are solid," said LHS coach Andy Harmon. "They have an amazing pitching staff, they hit the ball and they play defense. It was good for our juniors to get a chance to see that and play against them in the last games of the season."

Lowry was one of the younger teams in the Northern 3A and brings back a number of players.

"We are returning a lot of players and we are going to be right there next year," Harmon said. "We return more players than anybody else in the league. This junior/sophomore group is a good group that has been playing together for a lot of years. I think next year is going to be really good, because across the league teams are graduating their best, and our juniors are as good as our seniors.”

The Buckaroos hit .320 as a team this year with 9 home runs and 66 stolen bases, although they committed 81 errors along the way.

“I am proud of the boys for battling all season and competing in every game,” Harmon said. “They were in almost every game this year with an opportunity to win. We are headed in the right direction; they have been building on this for a few years now. This group of seniors got us one step closer, and I think next year the boys are going to take one more step and get back to the playoffs and hopefully make a run to the state tournament and see what happens.”

Senior Ridge Ricketts led the Bucks with a .432 batting average and he hit three homers on the season, while junior Jordan Parker was .423 with one home run.

“Thanks to everybody for all the support of Lowry baseball this year," Harmon said. "It has been amazing. We had a ton of support from the community, the parents, and the administration, it was awesome. I’m excited about what the future holds for Lowry baseball.”

This past weekend in Elko, Truckee beat Churchill County for the Northern 3A title.

Both teams are in mesquite this weekend for the NIAA 3A State Championships.

Truckee is the defending state champion.
