Colby Terry cleared 12 feet and Rachel Garrison tossed the discus 114 feet, 7 inches to secure the top spots in the pole vault and discus events at Churchill County (Fallon) High School last weekend and they are looking forward to a spot at the state championships on Friday and Saturday

Garrison also finished second in the shot put (32-7) and Heather Hall (31-9.25) was third.

The top four finishers in each event at regionals go on to compete at state.

“They had some computer issues yesterday, so the meet was stopped momentarily right after the 100 and they had to hand-time some of the events," said LHS assistant coach Kathy Norcutt.  "Apparently it was a network thing and they had to run new cable last night.”

The Lowry men scored 62 as a team to finish seventh, with Churchill County (117), Sparks (106.5), Spring Creek (105.5), Tahoe-Truckee (84), Elko (82), and Fernley (66) edging them out.

Lowry freshman Emily Backus qualified for the state meet  in three events, finishing second in the long jump (15-9.75), third in the 100 meters (12.87), and fourth in the 200 meters (26.85).

Jasper Glasgow took third in the shot put (41-11) and the discus (127-3), as did Anthony Peterson (19-0.5) in the long jump and McKenzi Petersen (4-10) in the high jump to round out the Buckaroo’s state competitors.

The Lowry women finished third with 80.5 behind Spring Creek (182.5) and Tahoe-Truckee (143.5).

The State Championships are Friday and Saturday Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas.
