Man to stand trial for sexual assault this month

On Monday, April 29, Cole Lewis Stremler, 36, appeared in the 11th Judicial Court with his attorney, Theresa Ristenpart. DDA Todd Banks argued on behalf of the State of Nevada.

On Nov. 5, 2018, Stremler pleaded not guilty to sexual assault and statutory sexual seduction. The court set an eight-day jury trial beginning the week of May 27, 2019.

At Monday’s pretrial conference, DDA Banks and Ristenpart sorted through legal motions.

Judge Shirley wants to decide the motions ahead of the trial as much as possible.

“It’s frustrating for a jury if they have to wait while we’re settling instructions,” he said. The court set a follow-up pretrial hearing for May 17, 2019.
