Shorthorns compete in Eureka

The Battle Mountain Shorthorn track and field team competed in the Eureka Invite on April 20 

The team came away with 17 personal bests, two season bests and six first-place finishes.

Ben Disbro won both of his events with personal bests to lead the Shorthorns. 

He was first in the shot put with a toss of 31 feet, 8.2 inches and he won the discus with a throw of 115-3”.

Jolena Ayers won the mile for the second straight week in windy conditions at 6 minutes, 20.09 seconds She was also placed second in the long jump at 12-6 and second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:12.78 to lead the Lady Shorthorns.

Lilly Peterson won the 100 meters with a time of 14.96.  She was also second in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 31.65. She also earned third-place in the long jump behind teammate Ayers with a distance of 12-4.5.

Shaelee Williams won her first-ever 800 meters with a personal-best time of 3:26.99.  She was also 12th in the long jump at 7-4.

Alex Martin won the sixth-grade discus for the second week in a row,  with a personal-best toss of 56-5. He was second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 19-11.  He finished the day in long jump with a seventh-place jump and personal best of 8-0.50.

Keira Hanson was second in the shot put at 15-7.5 and second in the discus at 34. She was third in the long jump with a leap of 7-8.5.

Michael Lovelace had a good meet, with a third-place finish and personal best in the discus with a throw of 74-7. He also had a season-best toss in the shot put with at  26-8 for another third- place finish.

Jagger Whitlock had personal bests in three events. He was third in the long jump with a distance of 12-9.  He was fourth in the 200 meters at 32.11 and fifth in the 400 meters at 1:15.3.

Aden Payzant was third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:14.31 and sixth in the 100 meters at 14.35.

Sareidy Navarette-Guizar had two personal bests, one in the 400 meters with a time of 1:31.28 for third  place and one in the 100 meters, where she ended up in sixth place at 16.34.

The girls 4x100 relay of Keira, Shaelee, Sareidy and Lilly had a season-best, third-place time of 67.30.

Other performances for the day where: Alyssa Harris – fourth in discus at 44-2 and sixth in the long jump at 10-2, both personal bests.

Sean Scherer – fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at 19.56, eighth in the long jump 11-4, and tied for 10th in 100 meters at 15.40.

Julian Sosa – sixth in the long jump at 11-2 for a personal best, eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at 22.29 and eighth in the 100 meters at 15.40.

Aaron Morrow – eighth in shot put at 17-1 for a personal best, 13th in the long jump at 6-8.5 and 13th in the 100 meters at 16.40.

Braxton Nield – eighth in the 100 hurdles at 20.58, eighth in the 200 at 33.78 and tied 10th in the 100 at 14.75.

The Shorthorns competed in the Winnemucca meet on May 2 and will finish the season at home on May 10th starting at 10 am at the Silver Standard Marigold Mine Athletic Complex.
