Battle Mountain closes out regular season at Lowry Invitational

The Battle Mountain High School track and field team concluded its regular season this past Saturday in Winnemucca at the Lowry Invitational.

Tristin Cordingley set a personal best in the shot put to win a gold medal with a toss of 44 feet, 5 inches. The senior also set a personal best in the discus with a toss of 120-6.

Cody Ostler posted a pair of third-place finishes in the jumping events. The junior had a leap of 18-8 in the long jump and 38-8.50 in the triple jump.

Aldo Castellanos was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-7.50 and the sophomore was ninth in the 100-meter dash with time of 11.89 seconds. Isaiah Powell was fifth in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 18-5. Powell added a seventh-place outing in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 56.30.

Kobe Lake posted a top-10 finish in the shot put, placing eighth with a throw of 38-7.50.

Aydan Samuelson was 15th in the shot at 34-5 and Nolan Chopp was 21st at 32-3. All of those marks were personal bests. Austin Wilkins was 15th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.53.

The 4x100 relay of Castellanos, Marcus Jury, Powell and Ostler were second in a time of 45.42. The 4x200 relay of Wilkins, Tovar, Jury and Ostler were second at 1:L37.72 and the 4x800 relay of Michael Malone, Jimmy Cox, Declan McClary and Powell were third with a time of 9:53.47.

Churchill County won the team title with 148.50, while Lowry was second at 132.50. Elko (110), Battle Mountain (63.50) and Spring Creek (48.50) rounded out the top five.

On the girls side, Sruti Bhakta was fifth in the pole vault, as she cleared 7-0. The senior was ninth in the triple jump, with a personal-best leap of 28-5 and she was 10th in the 100-meter dash at 14.60.

Anahi Lopez placed ninth in the pole vault at 6-6, which was a personal best. In addition, she was 16th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 23.81. Freshman Diane Brown was 18th in the 100 meters (15.83), 19th in the long jump (10-5.50) and 22nd in the 200 meters at 35.13.

Lowry won the girls team title with 140 points. Elko placed second with 131.50 points and Churchill County (105), Pershing County (85.50) and Spring Creek (69.50) rounded out the top five.

Battle Mountain travels to Fallon this weekend to compete in the Northern 2A Regional Championships. Action starts on Friday at 2 p.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The top four finishers in each event advance to the state championships in Las Vegas.
