Masters heading to Feather River College

MCDERMITT — McDermitt High School senior Precious Masters will be moving to Quincy, Calif., this coming fall  to play basketball and begin to further her education at Feather River College.

"I picked Feather River because Coach (Brent) Stephens did a really good job of recruiting," said Masters. "He made it to our important games at state and regionals. I went there to visit and it is a really beautiful place out there. I have a couple of friends from the Reno area that will be going there too. I am going to miss Coach Wilkinson the most at school, and I am going to miss the support of the town of McDermitt. I want to keep playing basketball after Feather River, hopefully in Division One, but we will see how it goes.”

Masters led the Lady Bulldogs to a 19-4 record this season, which included an undefeated record in the Eastern 1A.

McDermitt beat Eureka to win the Northern 1A Regional Championship in February. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the NIAA State Championships as well.

As a senior, she averaged 24.7 points and 14.6 rebounds per game.

She also had 4.3 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.3 blocks a game.

Masters averaged a double-double her junior year with 23 points a game and 14.4 rebounds.  In addition, she had 3.9 steals and 2.8 assists a contest.

Masters was a member of the McDermitt program all four years and was named the Eastern 1A Player of the Year for the past three seasons.

Brent Stephens has been the Feather River College head women’s basketball coach for four years.

“Precious is probably the most complete player that we have brought into Feather River in my time there," Stephens said. "I think she is going to fit in really well with our program. When you watch her play you can’t find anything that she doesn’t do well. I am most impressed with her leadership. The way she led her group this year. She demonstrates greatness for the team based on her play. I am excited to coach Precious and I think that the sky is the limit for her.”

Feather River College plays in the Golden Valley Conference.

“I am excited for Precious. I know that Feather River is perfect for her," said Jaimi Wilkinson, her high school coach at McDermitt. "Coach Stephens is going to make sure that she gets to the next level, which I know she can play. We have shared a lot of time on the court and many quiet times in rooms having conversations that I will cherish forever. I am going to miss her leadership shills; she put her teammates in front of herself many times this season.”
