The Battle Mountain High School baseball team collected three wins last weekend over rival Pershing County.
The series opened in Battle Mountain on Friday and the Longhorns needed just three innings to win 15-0 and end the game early due to the mercy rule. The Longhorns scored 13 runs in the first inning.
The series shifted to Lovelock on Saturday and Battle Mountain came away with a 13-3 win in seven innings in game one despite a slow start.
The Mustangs led 1-0 after two innings of play, when the Longhorns put the contest out of reach with six runs in the third inning and three more runs in the fourth. Battle Mountain tacked on three more runs in the seventh to account for the 10-run victory.
The series finale provided a high-scoring affair for those who like a lot of runs.
Battle Mountain scored multiple times in each of the first three innings to lead 7-0. Pershing County cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the third inning and took an 8-7 lead in the fourth inning after scoring five runs.
However, the Longhorns retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning with four runs and scored six more times in the sixth inning to pull away.
Battle Mountain is currently fifth in the Northern 2A at 10-10 and still has to make up a game with Incline. Yerington leads the league at 17-1, Incline is second at 16-4, West Wendover (10-7) is third and North Tahoe (8-7) is fourth. North Tahoe still has six Northern 2A games to play (three against West Wendover and three versus White Pine).
The top four teams advance to the Northern 2A Regional Championships, which will be held at Yerington High School.
