Junior varsity Buckaroos hit the track at Lovelock

Last Saturday the Lowry High School JV track and field team traveled to Pershing County High School to participate in the Pershing County Invitational against 1A – 3A Division schools.

“They have a brand new facility with a new track that looked really good," said LHS coach Grant Beatty. "But it rained the entire time that we were there. We ended up leaving a little bit early before the end of the meet because the conditions were so bad.”

Freshman Cody Tolbert grabbed a piece of a three-way tie for second place in the pole vault with a personal-record  leap of 6 feet, 6 inches on his way to being the only Buckaroo medalist of the meet.

“This is Cody’s first year pole vaulting,” Beatty said. “He has really bonded to it and he saw some success this weekend, so he is really happy about that.”

LHS freshman Mackenzie Swenson was the only top-10 girls finisher, coming in tenth in the 100 meters with a time of 16.66 seconds.

Celso Ruiz was the second best Lowry finisher, posting a time of one minute, 2.33 seconds in the 400 meters for fifth place.

Tyler J. Morrison took sixth right behind him with a personal best time of 1:03.64 and ran to another best for seventh place in the 1,600 meters at 5:38.82.

Christopher McGuire was the only other Buckaroo to crack the top ten for the boys, finishing in ninth place in both the 800 meters (2:39.98) and 1600 meters (5:43.25).

“It was a good meet for us to get all of our young kids out there," Beatty said. "Get them on the track, let them have some fun, and get some races under their belts.
