Buckaroos edged out and then snowed out in Reno

The Lowry High School baseball team went to North Valleys last weekend to take on the Panthers and battled to a 10-9 loss on Friday.

Snow took over on Saturday and postponed play of the other games until further notice.

The Buckaroos gave up six runs in the first inning, but they came back strong and worked hard to keep the game close.

“The error bug bit us,” LHS coach Andy Harmon said. “We had five errors in the first inning and that killed us. We spotted them six runs, but we came back with four and we were tied up at five innings. We had guys on base, but we couldn’t quite seal the deal.”

Lowry scored four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game up at 9-9, but they surrendered one in the bottom of the sixth that was the game winner for the Panthers.

“Our pitchers only gave up four earned runs," Harmon said. "If we can get those errors figured out, we are going to be winning some ballgames. There is still plenty of time left in the season, but it needs to change sooner than later. There are a lot of opportunities left on our schedule. We are not in dire straights by any means yet. Elko, Fallon, and Truckee are all good ball clubs, but we can beat all of them if we put all three aspects of our game together. If we can cut down on our errors we can play with anybody in this league.”

Jordan Parker went 3-for-3 at the plate and Jacob Marriott was 2-for-3 for the Bucks in the game on Friday.

Lowry is 1-6 in league play after Friday’s game.

The Buckaroos come home for a Friday, March 29 match-up against Fernley at 2 p.m. and a double-header on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
