The Winnemucca Junior High wrestling team traveled to Lovelock this past Saturday  to end its season at the Tah-Neva Championships.

All weight classes represented Winnemucca well.

Fifth-grade through eighth-grade grapplers competed for the final bragging rights of the year.

“We had a great weekend in Lovelock at the Tah-Neva Championships, winning both the seventh and eighth-grade championships," said Winnemucca Junior High School wrestling coach John Brooks. "We ended up with three seventh-grade individual champions and three in the eighth grade also.”

Eighth-graders Chris Gildone (95), Wade Mori (120), and Brenton Baker (130) all grabbed gold medals, as did seventh-graders Landon Esquivel (85), Anthony Guzman (105), and Brayden Casalez (110).

Coda Nichols (85) had a second place finish for the eighth-graders, while Felix Munoz (100), Braden Hammargren (115), Damon Fetty (150), and Jeremiah Simmons (HWT) all secured third place.

Ryan Adair (90) took fourth to finish out the eighth-grade scoring.

“As often is the case, the tournament was decided in the consolation part of the brackets,” Brooks said.  “The kids kept on battling throughout the day and got it done.”

Luke Fentress (145) had a second-place finish for the seventh-graders.

Kaylub Prather (100) took third, and Diego Contreras (85), Bryce Kuykendall (95), Braiden Dennis (115), and David Walker (HWT) all finished fourth.

The sixth-graders was led by Erick Valencia (85) who finished second.

“Brenton Baker was recognized by coaches as one of six outstanding wrestlers," Brooks said.
