LHS swimmers take down Incline

The Lowry High School swimming team took to the road last Saturday and competed in the Northwest Pool in Reno against Incline Village.

Despite a small Buckaroo team, both squads were able to emerge victorious, as the men posted a convincing 65-16 win over Incline, and the women grabbed a 34-29 title.

“We took four boys and three girls, we are a similar size school to Incline," said LHS coach Shelby Ruff. "We had some interesting relays, but they did well overall; we just kind of threw them together with what I could fix. It was Matthew Lizanetz’s first showing this season; he shows a lot of potential with some of his strokes and his technique.”

Ashton Kalkoske took first in the 100 freestyle, Hunter Lewis won the 50 freestyle, Matthew Lizanetz touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke, and Tristan Miller won the 200 Individual Medley. Kalkoske, Lewis, Lizanetz and Miller also teamed up to win the 200 relay.

Lewis took second in the 200 freestyle, as did Lizanetz in the 50 freestyle and Miller in the 100 breaststroke. Kalkoske was third in the 200 freestyle.

In other men's team action Reno (126) took down Reed (70), Truckee (179) slammed Incline (11),  Reno (116) squeaked by Bishop Manogue (108), but Bishop Manogue (136) took a win over Reed (64).

The Lady Bucks were led by Adaya Goldblatt, who won the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Tara Higley took first in the 500 freestyle and second in the 50 freestyle, while Abbee Grieve was fourth in the 50 freestyle.

“We came in with a strong enough depth that we are mostly just working on conditioning and fixing up a couple of little technique things here and there," Ruff said. "Particularly with our walls. Our starts and turns are generally where we get passed, on a bad turn or on a slow start. If we clean those things up we are going to start winning more than we already are.”

The women's team for Reno (182) beat Reed (108), Truckee (212) crushed Incline (15), Reno (157) defeated Bishop Manogue (132) and Bishop Manogue (179) dropped Reed (107).

Lowry heads to Truckee to compete against Truckee and Fernley on Saturday, March 23, and then they will travel to Carson on Saturday, April 6.

“We are up at Truckee this Saturday; it will be another combination 3A/4A event. There will probably be some divers there, but we don’t have any divers on our team to compete,” Ruff said.
