The McDermitt High School track team went to Spring Creek last Saturday with five boys to compete in its first contest of the year and they emerged with all personal best performances.
MHS junior Jagger Hinkey had the best finish for the Bulldogs in Spring Creek, coming in third place with a personal record of 16 feet, 10.5 inches in the long jump.
Hinkey finished sixth in the shot put (36-6) and eighth in the discus (96-11) while achieving PR’s in both of those events as well.
Senior Nash Pope (2 minutes, 37.45 seconds) set a PR in the 800 meters and finished 12th.
Robert Pope long jumped to an 11th-place finish with a PR of 14-8.
Steele Crossley (13:26.06) secured 13th place in the 3,200 meters and 20th place in the 1,600 with a time of 5:53.93.
Ashton Alexander took 38th place in the shot put (26-0) and 42nd place in the discus (61-04), both were also personal bests.
The Bulldogs will compete in the Pershing County Invitational starting at 9 a.m. today, Saturday, March 23.
They go to Battle Mountain on March 30, and will attend the Lynn Behrman meet at Parma High School in Idaho on April 5.
The Eureka Invitational will be held April 19 and the Ranchers Invitational will be April 30 in Crane, Oregon. The Lowry Invitational will close out the season for McDermitt on Saturday, May 4 starting at 9 a.m.
