Buckaroo baseball swept by Spartans

The Lowry baseball team brought a 1-2 record into their series with Spring Creek last weekend and played three hard-fought games but could not improve their league standing, losing all three games to go to 1-5 on the year.

The games were played in Elko with Spring Creek as the home team, and Friday found the Bucks losing to the Spartans in a 15-12 slugfest. Both teams were scoreless through three, and Lowry took an early lead with five runs in the top of the fourth, but Spring Creek answered with eight in the bottom of the inning and another six in the fifth to go up 14-5.

The Buckaroos put up another five in the sixth, and two in the seventh, but it was too little, too late.

Saturday’s doubleheader started with Lowry battling to a 10-10 tie going into the seventh inning, only to give up the game-winner in the bottom of seven to lose 11-10.

The game started slow again, but this time Spring Creek scored first with six in the third, while the Bucks managed three in the fourth, five in the fifth, and two in the sixth to get to the last frame tie.

In the final game of the series Lowry held the lead 6-5 after five innings, but the Spartans put up four in the sixth for a 9-6 win over the Buckaroos.

Lowry goes to North Valleys on Friday, March 22 for a 2 p.m. start, and they play a double-header against the Panthers on Saturday, March 23 starting at 10 a.m.

The Bucks will return home to take on Fernley on Friday, March 29 at 2 p.m. and at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30 the Vaqueros will challenge Lowry on their home field in a doubleheader.
