As the Northern Nevada Junior High Wrestling season winds down, the Shorthorn wrestlers are cranking up the intensity and getting ready for the Tah-Neva League Championship Tournament.
“The kids wrestled hard this weekend,” said coach Mitch Domagala. “They are getting the basics down and continue to improve each time out. We have one more week, so we need to correct a few things and we’ll be in good shape.”
The team took second place as the ‘Horns qualified 12 wrestlers for the final tournament this weekend in Lovelock. Leading the way were Sean Scherer, Stone Whitlock and Wiatt Kelley who captured championship titles. Liam Bundrock, Anthony Silva, Asher Bundrock and Lealynn Putt finished in the runner-up spot. Heiley Hall and Ben Disbro wrestled their way to third place. While Angel Guadarrama, Drayden McClary, and Osvaldo Gutierrez came home in fourth place. Frankie Sims, Kail Bengoa and Zane Fetterly also wrestled, but came up just short of placing.
The ‘Horns will compete in the league championship tournament Saturday in Lovelock against 22 other junior high teams across northern Nevada.
