Evalyn Marie Chavez pleaded not guilty to battery with a deadly weapon (a steak knife). According to DDA Todd Banks, Chavez faces two to ten years in prison and fines of up to $10,000 for the Category E felony. The offense is eligible for probation at the discretion of the court, he added. PD Steve Cochran represents the defendant.
Judge Jim Shirley set the jury trial for June 10 – 12, 2019. He ordered Chavez to have no contact with the victim.
Amanda Lei Hold-Brewer requested an early discharge from probation.
“There were some bumps in the beginning,” PD Cochran acknowledged on Hold-Brewer’s behalf. “But in terms of momentum and consistency, Miss Brewer has done well as reflected by her graduation from the regional drug court program.”
DDA Banks agreed.
“In the early part of 2017, Miss Brewer was deeply engaged in her addiction. As to her physical health, it was a miracle she was still alive,” he said. “We’ve watched her grow stronger, both physically and mentally. Ultimately, she should be commended. I’m happy to recommend the State go along with the defense counsel’s recommendation.”
The judge congratulated Brewer and granted the request.
