The seventh-grade Winnemucca Junior High School wrestlers brought home three champions from Fernley last Saturday.
Brayden Casalez, Chris Gildone, and Anthony Guzman all grappled to win the prize. Sixth-graders Jhett Harbor and Erick Valencia triumphed as well, as did Pete Bengochea for the Fifth-grade squad.
“We took about 30 wrestlers to Fernley to compete and they did a great job,” said WJHS wrestling coach John Brooks. “The competition seemed a little tougher than the previous week, but we did come away with some champions.”
The eighth-grade team grabbed three second-place finishes with Coda Nichols, Felix Munoz, and Brenton Baker.
Braden Hammargren, Damon Fetty, and Juan Lopez finished third in their weight classes.
In addition to their champions, the seventh-grade team had four second place finishers, Landon Esquivel, Kaylub Prather, Braiden Dennis, and David Walker. Diego Contreras, Alan Andrade, Anthony Gonzalez, and Luke Fentress finished third, and Ryan Adair and Damien Barajas were fourth for the Seventh-graders.
For the Sixth-grade team Donovan Walker and Gage Kinder grappled to third place finishes. Maddox Hislop was second for the Fifth-graders while Kruz Gomez took third.
