Shorthorn wrestlers compete in Fernley

Fernley was the destination for the Shorthorn wrestlers as they hit the road in the early morning hours to continue their Tah-Neva season.

Eleven other teams were waiting as the Battle Mountain team got their second tournament of the season in the books.  When it was all done the ‘Horns were in 4th place as a team.

“We wrestled hard today.  The first round was a tough one for the kids.  It looked like the bus ride took a bit of a toll on the kids, but they shook it off and finished with a solid performance,” said BMJHS coach Mitch Domagala.

Leading the way for the Shorthorns were Stone Whitlock and Wiatt Kelley as they notched first place finishes.

Joining them on the medal podium were runners-up Liam Bundrock, Heiley Hall and Ben Disbro.  Frankie Sims, Lealynn Putt and Sean Scherer brought home fourth place.

Also wrestling for the green ream were:  Omar Gutierrez, Kail Bengoa, Angel Guadarrama, Osvaldo Gutierrez, Zane Fetterly, Austin Duval, Drayden McClary and Asher Bundrock.

“This was a tough tournament.  The competition level was high and our kids more than held their own.  We have a bit of fine tuning to do, but we should be ready for the qualifier next week.”
