The Humbold County Rural Basketball League was back in action on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The action started with a Division 2 match-up that saw McDermitt White beat Denio/Fields 23-21.
Warrick Crutcher scored 12 points, assisted by Clay Harney with five (two shots and a free throw). Aiden Teeman also scored four points and Kiara Crutcher had two.
Denio/Fields had 18 opportunities to score free throws, but only capitalized on three. Two of those were scored by Matti DeLong and the other by her little sister Louise.
Matti scored 4 more points, Maddox Norris was the high point scorer with 10, and Bergen Hagbom made an additional four points.
Up next, Paradise beat McDermitt 31-29 in a Division 1 contest, putting them second in the standings for the season.
Wade Mori found his golden touch and scored 22 points (two with free throws). Ethan Kemper and Kolby Hoagland both scored three points (two points shots, and one free throw each) and Yadira made a basket for two. Sara Buckingham swished a free throw shot for one point.
McDermitt was led in points by Sadie Hinkey (a fifth-grader that plays up). She made four shots and a free throw for nine. Clay Harney had eight points, Areli Pacheco scored four, Rylee three (one- two point shot and a free throw).
Akota Smart and Reign Crutcher both added two points to the board and Elias Smart one.
Next up, Kings River played Paradise but the game was called with over three minutes left in fourth quarter due to some condensation issues with the floor and players slipping.
The spectators quickly got mops, towels, opened doors and cranked up the heat.
The score was 30 to 8 when the game was called. Kings River with the victory.
Cody Allen was making lay-in after lay-in and a few other jump shots. He was credited with 22 of their 30 points. Colton Allen, Isaac Warner, Robert Depoali, and Hazen Root all added two of their own points to the board.
Paradise was short a few players, as they were sick and a few even moved. So with their six-man team they had to work hard against Kings River who is used to only have a six-man team.
Jasmine Freeman made five points (two shots and a free three), Elizabeth Carrillo had two point and Zayra Villa made a free throw for one.
It did dry out and the little Division 3 players were able to play. Denio/Fields beat Paradise 12-10 (they were completely adorable).
In the finale, Denio/Fields beat Kings River 23-11 in a Division 1 game putting them in first place in the standing for 2019.
Both Kort Summers and Caden Montero scored three-two point shots for six each (12 in all), Mattie Rose Johnson, Blake Powers and Lars Hagbom added two points a piece for six.
Emmalee Estrada drained two free throw shots and another shot totaling four points, and made a free throw for one.
Isaac Warner played up for Kings River and he was in the land of giants. He is so small in comparison, and yet he managed to steal the ball, break down the court and make a lay-in for two points
Nate Thompson scored five more points with two shots and a free throw, Hannah Thompson and Cody Allen also added two points each for four.
