Fred Marcus (Dugan) Twichell, age 95, passed away peacefully in Winnemucca, NV, on January 23rd, 2019. He was born in Antioch, CA, to Fred and Pearl Twichell.
Dugan attended primary and grammar schools in Orovada and Battle Mountain and later attended the National Mine School. Later on he was employed for three years by the Getchell Mine in Humboldt County as an electrician.
Dugan was a World War II veteran in the US Navy and commissioned in 1943 on the USS Makassar Straight as a Radar Technician.
After his discharge in 1947 he returned to Winnemucca. He married Josephine (Josie) Scott in 1949, raised a family and co-partnered in the operation of Scott Shady Court.
In 1979 he and Josie retired to Paradise Valley where they resided for 22 years.
Dugan was an active member of the Paradise Valley Voluntary Fire Department. His biggest pastime was spending leisure time at the cabin retreat located at Hinkey Summit.
Dugan was also a skilled handyman and enjoyed helping family and friends in need with maintenance or repairs.
In 2000, he and Josie returned to Winnemucca. Dugan will be remembered as an exceptional family man, for his great sense of humor and gentle demeanor.
He is predeceased by his wife, Josephine Twichell; a brother, Elbert Twichell, of San Jose, CA; and, a sister, Barbara Anderson, of Martinez, CA. He is survived by his two daughters, Diana Callahan, and son-in-law, Terry; and, Doris Twichell, and son-in-law, Vic Christison; and, several nieces and nephews.
