The Battle Mountain High School JV girls basketball team came away with two impressive home wins this past weekend.
The Lady Longhorns beat West Wendover 43-10 on Friday afternoon. Battle Mountain jumped to an early lead with 16 points in the first quarter and West Wendover struggled to take care of the ball against the Battle Mountain press. The Lady Longhorns allowed just four points at halftime for a 22-4 lead.
Wendover continued to struggle to score in the second half only scoring six points. The Lady Longhorns were led in scoring by freshman Marena Fuller, who had 10 points. Jade Castellanos and Brynnlee Freeman each added six points and nine rebounds.
BMHS crushes White Pine
Battle Mountain got off another quick start on Saturday and beat White Pine 65-28. The Lady Longhorns used a 20-point first quarter and eventually led 39-11 at halftime.
Battle Mountain further pulled away in the third quarter and created a running clock for the remainder of the contest.
Fuller paced Battle Mountain with 12 points. Yezzel Guizar and Zarina Ceja both had 10 points, followed by Destiny Villanueva with eight points and Freeman with six points and 12 rebounds.
Battle Mountain is back on the road Friday to play Silver Stage at 3 p.m. and Yerington on Saturday at 11 a.m.
