“To lose someone is a tough time. But going through things that nobody understands has got to be the toughest”
These are but a few poignant words to describe the life of Hayley Flaman. Hayley was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on June 18, 1989 to Joan McDonald and Myles Flaman – the start of this Ray of Sunshine’s life.
Hayley was focused on building a life together with Rulon, and the plans they had set in motion for marriage, family and financial independence. Following graduation from Albert M. Lowry High School in 2007 and Fran Brown School of Cosmetology in 2009, Hayley found her calling with Great Basin Industrial (GBI). It was at GBI that Hayley fulfilled many of her dreams to travel and where she met many of her life-long friends, including the love of her life, Rulon.
But to tell her more recent life story, we must first take a step back in time to August 1997 when Joanie and Scott began their life together. It was a time of great anticipation and excitement when Hayley left Ecole Henry Kelsey French Elementary School in Canada and arrived in Winnemucca, NV. Never to forget her Maple Leaf roots or her love of horses, coming from a horse-racing family. But to begin anew in the USA as an 8-year old – a life that would include new siblings of the same age as she and her brother. A life that unfolded with cheerleading trips with Haley McFadden and her new sister, Chelsey, playing dress-up and pretending to be Emma B from the Spice Girls or Brittney Spears. Hayley loved the movie, Superstar, when it came out and she could imitate the main character better than anyone we knew.
Hayley never spoke ill of or disliked anyone. She was always warm-hearted and inviting with everyone. Like all of us, she had a few quirks. She was known as being a bit on the clumsy side and she was reluctant to get her picture taken.
Although the miles separated she and her brother, Levi, later in life, Hayley had special memories of him teaching her as a young child to read in French and in helping her with her homework.
Hayley loved cabbage rolls and perogies. She loved listening to music and always had her earbuds in. She loved going to Jamaica with her family on their annual trips. She loved the beach in general, including the beach in Corpus Christi, TX where her work took her to.
This is the story of Hayley Flaman. A story that should have been told several decades later. You see, the story changed with her passing - entering her forever life on January 5, 2019, a mere five months shy of what would have, no question, been a fun-filled 30th birthday celebration.
Left to grieve the loss of Hayley is a pack of family and friends, young and old, including those from GBI Nation and from her extended U.S. and Canadian families.
Included in her survivors is her fiancé, Rulon McRae, her mother and step-father, Joanie and Scott Kent of Farmington, UT, father Myles Flaman and Grandma Mary Flaman of Saskatchewan, brother, Levi, from Alberta, step-sister, Chelsey, of Kaysville, UT, step-brother, Chad, of Midland, TX. Hayley is also survived by several close aunts, uncles and cousins including her Auntie Gramma Janis and cousin Tracy, both residing in Canada.
Hayley’s family welcomes everyone to the celebration of her amazing life story on January 12, 2018 at 2pm MST at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street in Farmington, UT with gathering of family and friends to follow at 3pm MST at Granny Annie’s Banquet Center, 286 N. 400 West in Kaysville, UT, food and refreshments will be served.
Following this celebration, Hayley will be remembered by those close to her in Canada with details to be announced.
