Southern Idaho was the destination for the Battle Mountain High School wrestling tea, as they kicked off 2019 by seeking out the best the Spud State had to offer.
“We split up into two teams this weekend in order to get all the kids as many matches as possible. It paid off. Our kids wrestled solid throughout the tournaments,” said BMHS coach Domagala.
The Longhorns were lead at Canyon Ridge by Ricardo Carrillo with a fifth-place finish and Jorge Chavira who came home in sixth place.
In the girl’s tournament, Catrina Shake finished in first place, Jacee Herald took second place and Alex Jones was third.
“We were pleased with the success that these kids had. They wrestled hard all weekend and it paid off for them. The improvement that we are seeing is incredible,” said assistant coach Mike Williams.
Jose Guizar, Dalton Shake, Brice Domagala, Tyler Rochester and Lyle Whitten all took part in the tournament, but came up just short of placing.
The Longhorns had an up and down first day at the Buhl Tournament, but picked it up on Saturday.
“We started slow, but wrestled better as the tournament went,” added assistant coachTorrey Vezina.
