Battle Mountain JV girls split a pair of home league games

The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity girls saw its first action of 2019, hosting a pair of games this past weekend.

The Lady Longhorns opened the weekend on Friday afternoon with a 46-12 win over Silver Stage.

Battle Mountain got off to a quick start in the first half and built a 31-7 lead at halftime. The Lady Longhorns continued to cruise in the second half and outscored the Nighthawks 15-5 in the final 16 minutes.

The Lady Longhorns were led in scoring by freshman Brynlee Freeman with nine points. Yezzel Guizar had eight points for Battle Mountain and Ashlynn Newkirk followed with 6 points. 

BMHS falls to Yerington

After getting off to a quick MHS JV start on Friday, it was just the opposite on Saturday for the Lady Longhorns. Battle Mountain hosted Yerington and suffered a 44-34 loss. 

The Lady Longhorns managed just eight points in the first half and had to work back from a double-digit deficit. The Lions made three 3-point field goals in the early going to build their lead.

The Lady Longhorns were led in scoring by freshman Zarina Ceja with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Guizar added nine points and Freeman added six points.

Battle Mountain traveled to Lovelock on Tuesday to play Pershing County and results were not available at press time. The Lady Longhorns return home Friday to play Excel Christian and are back on the road Saturday to face Coral Academy.
