On Thursday, Dec. 27, the Lowry High School wrestling team joined 86 other teams in the Sierra Nevada Classic wrestling tournament to start the two-day event held at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
Lowry only took six wrestlers to the tournament and they did as well as could be expected.
The Buckaroos finished in 41st out of 87 teams slated on the board with 47 points.
Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) won the tournament with 208 points. Spring Creek, the defending 3A Nevada state champion, was seocnd with 193.5 points.
Del Oro (Calif.) (170.5), Shadow Ridge (Las Vegas) (169) and Spaish Springs (Sparks) (157.50) rounded out the top five
THURSDAY RESULTS:
106 Isaiah Blanco (Senior) 3-1 scored 10 team points. 7-2 decision over Jacob Hoxie from Ridgevue, Idaho. Pinned Oliver Barnes from Burns, Ore. in just 49 seconds, then took 1:27 to pin Harrisburg, Ore.’s Russell Talmadge.
In the quarterfinal Blanco lost a major decision (11-2) to Ryan Luna from St. Francis, Cal.
126 Taylor Corak (Junior) 3-1 scored 10 team points. Pin in 4:58 over Jackson Morgan from Castro Valley, Calif.
Pinned Silver Creek, Cal. Matthew Stacy in 5:41, and won a 3-2 decision over Raul Ruiz from Nyssa, Ore.
Got pinned in 1:41 in the quarterfinal by Shadow Ridge, Nev.’s Triston Curtis.
132 Jimmy Rackley (Senior) 1-2 scored 3 team points. Got pinned in 1:24 by El Capitan, Calif.’s Devin Holman. Consolation round one pinned Bryce Wunderly from Liberty, Ore. in 2:27 and in consolation round 2 lost a 6-2 decision to Burns, OR Cody King.
138 Cade Bell (Junior) 4-2 scored nine team points. Pinned Parker Carey from Quincy, Calif., in 1:20. Lost a 7-3 decision to Jacob Wright from American Fork, Utah. Won a 9-6 decision over Luis Perez from Grace Davis, Calif.
Pinned Jacob Apodaca from Cardinal Newman, Calif., in 3:55. Won a 3-2 decision over Case Crandall from Virgin Valley. Got pinned in 1:57 by Austin Dalton from Lebanon, Ore.
170 Caleb Sanchez (Senior) 3-1 scored 9 team points. Won an 8-7 decision over Ledger Petracek from Elk Grove, Calif.
Pinned Aidan Cash from Carmel, Cal. in 1:12. Got pinned by Del Oro, Cal.’s Noah Blake in 46 seconds. Pinned Kasey Mena from Palma, Calif., in just 33 seconds.
182 Anthony Peterson (Sophomore) 1-2 scored 2 team points. Won an 11-6 decision over Cody Jenkins from Spring Creek. Got pinned by Javen Jovero from Rancho Bernardo, Cal. in 4:57. Got pinned by Liam Leckie from Vista del Lago, Cal. in 1:40.
FRIDAY RESULTS:
106: Isaiah Blanco 3-2 scored 10 team points. He lost a 3-2 decision to Steven Zaragoza from North Central, Ore.
126 Taylor Corak 4-2 finished in seventh place overall, and he scored 12 team points. He won a 5-4 decision over David Lopez from Folsom, Calif., before getting pinned by Jr. Garcia from McQueen in 3:42.
170 Caleb Sanchez 3-2 scored 9 team points. He got pinned by Alex Florey from Rancho Bernardo in 4:40.
