Rosaline Alves Mateas was born in Lovelock, Nevada on January 13, 1920, one of twin daughters of pioneer Lovelock Valley farmers Antonio and Anna Alves.
She attended Fairview Grammar School in the upper valley, Lovelock for four years. She then transferred to Lake Consolidated Elementary School in Lovelock.
She attended Pershing County High school and graduated as class valedictorian in 1937. After graduation she attended Reno Business College and worked as a secretary in Reno for a number of years.
Rosaline married Joseph F. Mateas, August 22, 1942, in Reno, Nevada. They continued their life back in Lovelock after purchasing a farm in the upper valley.
In 1976, after 33 years the farm was sold and they enjoyed their retirement in Lovelock. Rosaline enjoyed the town life as she walked everywhere—to the Senior Center, post office or to her church.
Rosaline is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Lovelock, Nevada. She served as Eucharistic minister to the sick and homebound members of the parish for over 15 years.
She is a 68 year member of St. Agnes Altar Society in which she served as corresponding secretary and public relations chairman for many years She served for many years as secretary-treasurer of the I.D.E.S. Portuguese Society of Lovelock and the Lovelock Council U.P.E.C. (Portuguese Union of California). She was queen of the third Lovelock I.D.E.S. Festa in 1937.
Rosaline is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the A.A.R.P. For many years she served as a volunteer newspaper reporter for St. John’s Catholic Church and other organizations. Her favorite contribution to the Church, the I.D.E.S., her family and other organizations was to compile scrapbooks for each of their events.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her twin sister Angelina, sisters: Marie Trigueiro, Laura Alves, Louise Grimes, Josephine Cardoza, Elizabeth O’Neal, and Anita Hicks, brothers: Joseph, Tony, Julio, John and Robert, and daughter Jean Novotny.
Rosaline is survived by sons George Michael Mateas, of Omak, Washington, and Robert Mateas of Reno, Nevada, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand nephews.

Rosaline loved her extended family and friends, and especially enjoyed attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. These devotions were close to her heart: St. Anthony, first Friday devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She also enjoyed visiting with her many friends, reading, and working on her many scrapbooks.
A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1045 Franklin Ave., Lovelock, Nevada.
