Ten teams from throughout Northern Nevada meet in the Pershing County High School gym as the 2019 Tah-Neva league season got underway. As the dust settled, the final standings saw the ‘Horns in 3rd place at the end of the day. “The kids wrestled hard today. They were aggressive and battled in every match,” commented coach Mike Williams.
Leading the way for the team in green were Sean Scherer, Stone Whitlock and Wiatt Kelley as they turned in championship performances as they captured first place. Finishing in the runner-up spot were Liam Bundrock, Kail Bengoa and Ben Disbro, while Frankie Sims and Alex Martin came home with fourth place.
Also wrestling for the Battle Mountain team but coming up just short of placing were Angel Guadarrama, Scott Henslee, Heiley Hall and Austin Duvall.
“These guys wrestled hard and won some matches. It’s just a matter of time and they’ll find their way onto the medal stand,’ stated Coach Domagala.
The Shorthorns return to action on Saturday as the make the trip to Fernley for the second tournament of the season.
