Regional basketball tournament takes place this week in Sparks

The Northern 2A Regional Basketball Championships get underway Thursday at Sparks High School.

The girls bracket is set but the boys bracket is still incomplete, with North Tahoe and Silver Stage still having to play. The game has been postponed multiple times due to the weather over the past couple weeks.

On the girls side, Battle Mountain, the No. 3 seed, will take on sixth-seeded West Wendover at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday. The winner of that game faces Incline at 3 p.m. on Friday.

In the other half of the bracket, No. 4 Yerington plays No. 5 Pershing County at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The winner meets top-seeded White Pine at 6:20 p.m. on Friday.

The championship game is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams in the championship advance to the NIAA State Championships in Las Vegas on March 1-2 at Eldorado High School and the Orleans Arena.

Meanwhile, the top four seeds on the boys side are set, but the final two seeds are yet to be determined.

In the top half of the bracket, West Wendover is the No. 1 seed.

Silver Stage is the No. 4 seed and will play either White Pine, North Tahoe or Battle Mountain at 8 p.m. on Thursday. West Wendover will play the winner of that game on Friday at 8 p.m.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Incline is the No 2 seed and has a first-round bye. Yerington is the No. 3 seed and will play either White Pine, North Tahoe and Battle Mountain at 4:40 p.m. on Thursday. 

The winner of that game plays Incline at 8 p.m. on Friday.

When the tiebreaker is decided after the completion of the league season, North Tahoe, White Pine or Battle Mountain will not be in the playoffs. Check updated brackets at www.niaa.com later in the week.
