Lowry High School senior Brooke Hansen has secured a scholarship to play volleyball at NAIA Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri next year.

“Brooke has always been a hard worker," said former LHS coach Brandon Eastman, who coached Hansen for the last two years. "She shows a high level of dedication and commitment to not only the sport itself at practice and in games, but to her teammates and coaches as well. I coached her for two years at the varsity level and she made a tremendous amount of improvement in that time."

On Tuesday, Hansen and her family held a signing ceremony on Pat Hart Court at Lowry High School to commemorate the occasion.

“I picked Culver-Stockton because they are a community college and they have smaller classroom sizes,” Hansen said. “I really care about my grades and I think that is where I can be most successful. I was considering another school in Illinois and one in Oregon, but I feel like this one is the best fit for me.”

Culver-Stockton College was founded in 1853 and has survived both the Civil War and the Great Depression. The campus is located on 140 acres that overlook the Mississippi River.

“I am thinking about studying pre-law and then going to law school after that," Hansen said. "I would like to minor in accounting and finance also.”

Around 1,100 students attend Culver-Stockton College and the school offers more than 60 majors and minors.

"She really became a leader for us, someone that we trusted on the court," Eastman said. "She was a big part of what we did, both blocking and offensively. She pushed herself to grow throughout her four years at Lowry High School. She has a natural instinct in terms of her blocking ability, getting her hands over the net in the right place; she is a great defensive presence at the net. I am encouraging her to take it one day at a time and appreciate what you have, and I will be working with her this spring to try and help get her ready. We are going to get her in the weight room and do everything that we can to get her where she wants to be.”
