Lowry finishes third at Northern 3A Regional

The Lowry High School wrestling team will send nine wrestlers to the NIAA State Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Winnemucca Event Center.

The Buckaroos finished third at the Northern 3A Regional Championships this past weekend in Fernley with 165 points. 

Spring Creek, the defending 3A state champion, won the regional title with 310 points. Elko was a distant second with 179.50 points and Fernley (144.50) and Churchill County (122) rounded out the top five. Sparks (75), South Tahoe (32.50), Dayton (17) and Truckee (5) completed the team standings.

Taylor Corak at 126 pounds, Cade Bell (145) and Anthony Peterson (182) all finished second for the Buckaroos. 

Isaac Mori (120), Jimmy Rackley (132) and Caden Ricci (138)  placed third for Lowry.

Angel Huerta (113), Caleb Sanchez (170) and Josiah Chapman (220) each finished fourth.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the NIAA State Championships. 

Boulder City wins 

Southern 3A title

Boulder City came away with the Southern 3A championsip with 213 points. 

Virgin Valley was second with 204 points and Western (150) was third. Pahrump Vallet (147) and Mojave (143) rounded out the top five. 

Unlike the past couple years, the Southern 3A will not have the advantage of five wrestlers in each weight class. Under the new NIAA realignment, each league will have four wrestlers this year in each weight class. 

The NIAA State Championships start at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in Winnemucca with the first round of 4A wrestling. Action is expected to last until about 8:15 p.m.

The second day of wrestling starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the consolation quarterfinals and  the finals starting at 2 p.m .
