The Lowry High School girls varsity team brought a 10-7 overall record into Friday’s match-up against Spring Creek and were sitting in third place in the Northern 3A division at 9-2 behind undefeated Churchill County (Fallon) (12-0) and Spring Creek (10-1).
The Spartans brought their A-game and put down the Lady Bucks 50-40 on Friday at Pat Hart Court.
The contest between the rivals was a back-and forth affair for much of the first half.
However, the Lady Bucks found themselves in foul trouble for much of the night and the Spartans spent much of their time at the free throw line.
In the end four Lowry players fouled out of the game, as Spring Creek pulled away for the victory and season sweep of the Lady Bucks.
Lowry knocks off Elko
On Saturday, Elko came to Lowry High School and the Indians were never in the game, as Lowry jumped out to a 17-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter and the Lady Bucks led 33-18 at the half.
Lowry led 41-24 at the end of three, and the final was 56-35.
The Lady Bucks took on league-leading Churchill County (Fallon) in their last home game of the year on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Results of the contest were not available at press time.
Churchill County leads the Northern 3A at 14-0 and Spring Creek is second at 11-2 and Lowry (10-3) is third. All three teams have clinched playoff berths.
Fernley (9-5) is fourth and Truckee (8-5) and South Tahoe (6-8).
A four-game road trip ends the regular season for the Lady Bucks; they go to South Tahoe on Friday and Dayton on Saturday.
Lowry travers to Fernley on Friday, Feb. 15, and Sparks on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Northern 3A Regional Championships will take place Feb. 21-23 at North Valleys High School in Reno. The top six teams advance the tournament, while the top two seeds get first-round byes.
