Kindergarten and first grade students at Battle Mountain Elementary School performed a Christmas program on Thursday in the elementary gymnasium under the direction of Mrs. Cheri Staton.
There are 90 kindergarten students between Mrs. Lisa Burkhart, Ms. MacKenzie Clark, Miss Katie Good and Mrs. Teresa Whitten’s classes.
In first grade, there are 84 students between Mrs. Kate Becker, Mrs. Sarah Byerley, Mrs. Sandra Eslick and Mrs. Linda Watterson’s classes.
Two kindergarten classes were combined to perform four songs each.
First to take the stage was Burkhart and Clark’s kindergarten classes. They began the concert by singing “Snow is Falling Today.” The students then performed “A Christmas Greeting,” “Reindeer Shouldn’t Waltz,” and “Snowpants.”
Next to take the stage were kindergartners from Good’s and Whitten’s classes. They performed “Gingerbread Cookies,” “Snowman Choir,” “Don’t Eat a Poinsettia,” and “Hip Hop Reindeer.”
After kindergarten students were done performing their songs, first-graders took the stage. They combined classes and performed two songs each. After each group’s performance, first grade performed two more songs as a grade level. Becker’s and Eslick’s classes started the first grade porti+on of the concert with their version of “Christmas Jubilation,” and “Este Es La Navidad.”
Then, Byerley’s and Watterson’s classes performed “There’s Someone in the Chimney,” and “Have a Happy, Happy Holiday.”
Becker’s and Eslick’s classes returned to the stage to perform “Blitzen’s Boogie” and “We Will Jingle” with the rest of their first grade peers.
“The kindergarten and first grade students worked very hard,” Staton observed. “Their teachers were extremely helpful in ensuring that their students would be ready for their concert.”
The concert concluded with a surprise visit from Santa Claus. “The students worked so hard on their songs, I had to take a break from my Christmas preparations to come say hello!” said Claus.
The kindergarten and first grade teachers and students would like to wish members of our community a very safe and happy holiday season!
