Munoz, Fetty win titles at Mustang Invitational

The Lowry High School wrestling team split its team up at the Mustang Invitational last Saturday in Lovelock, with the Lowry Gold finishing seventh with 83 points.

Felix Munoz at 110 pounds and Damon Fetty (145B) won individual titles for the Buckaroos.

Munoz won all three of his matches by pin, beginning against Fernley’s George Rosenlund in the quarterfinals, in an 82 seconds. Munoz reached the final by beating Dayton’s Jay Parsons  in 70 second and he needed just 45 seconds to pin Douglas’ Victor Valdez for the title.

Fetty did the same at in 145B-pound weight class, winning all three bouts by pin. 

After a first-round bye, Fetty beat Yerington’s Dillon Doll with 15 seconds left in the first period. Fetty then knocked off Pershing County’s Noel Zaldivar in the second period and Fetty took home the title after a pin over Galena’s Gerard Brano.

Emilio Magana finished second at 135 pounds, beginning with a narrow 9-7 win over Sparks’ Gregorio Lopez in the quarterfinal. Magana made his way into the final by pinning Hug’s Andrew Schatz, but he lost to Douglas’ Gabriel Deaton in the championship match.

Boni Jacinto was fourth for Lowry Gold at 285 pounds. Jacinto reached the semifinals with pins over Yerington’s Hunter Lujan and Spring Creek’s James Nichols. 

Jacinto lost in the semifinals to Wooster’s Joseph Garibay-Perez, but bounced back in the consolation semifinals to beat Lujan again. Jacinto lost the third-place match to Sparks’ Justice Risa.

Diego Reyes (123), Braden Hammargren (123), Denzel Lara (132) and David Hunter (138) also scored points for Lowry Gold. 

Lowry is hosting the hosting the Cody Louk Invitational this weekend at the Winnemucca Event Center. The tournament concludes on Saturday and features schools from Nevada and California.

The Buckaroos travel to Reno on Dec. 27-28 for the Sierra Nevada Classic.
