BMHS JV girls win four at home tournament

This past weekend the Battle Mountain High School JV girls basketball team  hosted its annual tournament. 

Head coach Michael Speers was very impressed as the Lady Longhorns were able to collect wins against Pershing County, Eureka and Tonopah and Carlin. 

Freshmen  L.Haney, J.Ayers, S.Jones and A.Ramos anchored the high-powered offense while Y.Guizar, M.Fuller, D.Villanueva and B. Crommelin maintained the Battle Mountain defense where they only allowed 37 points all weekend.

“The Lady Horns are improving each day as they practice harder and harder because we all know once league opens up we will be challenged,” said Spears.

Guizar led the team with 18 points while Jones finished with 13 in the win over Carlin. 

Against Eureka ,Guizar led the team with 12 its while Fuller and Haney finished with 10 each. 

The Lady Longhorns had a well balanced scoring attack against Lovelock with Guizar scoring nine, Haney eight and Ayers, Jones,  Ramos, Fuller and Grommelin all had six points each.

“This was a team effort as we allowed our freshmen players to get plenty of playing time because we will need there through out this long season,” added the coach.  

Battle Mountain hosts Incline on Friday at 2 p.m. and North Tahoe on Saturday at 11 a.m.
