Nevada's Weber honored as CoSIDA Academic All-America selection

RENO — After being named a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree last month, Nevada senior linebacker Lucas Weber has been selected to the 2019 Academic All-America Division I Football First Team.

Weber is Nevada’s first Academic All-America selection since Brooks Klein of the Wolf Pack baseball team earned a second team selection in 2013.

He is the Pack’s first first team honoree since Andrew Hickey of the rifle team in 2009. Weber is the fifth Nevada football student-athlete to earn the distinction, and first since Erick Streelman in 2002.

Weber, who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in secondary education, compiled a perfect 4.0 grade point average while earning his undergraduate degree in public health.

Although injury has plagued his senior season, Weber had a career year in 2018 as he posted a single-season career-best 56 tackles, including 33 solo tackles.

He registered 10.5 tackles for loss last year that went for 61 yards. For his career, Weber has collected 94 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Weber was also named a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy and the AFCA Allstate Good Works team earlier this season and has earned a spot on the Mountain West All-Academic team.

The 2019 Academic All-America Division I Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, features 21 members with a 4.0 GPA and 36 members with at least a 3.90 GPA as either undergraduate or graduate student-athletes. The 25 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.95.
