The Battle Mountain High School boys JV basketball team split its first four games of the year at the Mustang Invitational in Lovelock.
Battle Mountain opened the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 51-29 loss to Fernley. Marcos Jiminez and Terrance Fetterly each had six points for the Longhorns.
Battle Mountain took on another 3A school in Dayton later in the day and was defeated by the Dust Devils. Evan Gonzalez and Fetterly paced the Longhorns with eight points apiece, DJ Wahl added five.
Battle Mountain bounced back with two wins on Saturday, starting with a 50-9 victory over Carlin. Fetterly and Aydan Samuelson reached double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Gonzalez added eight points.
Battle Mountain closed out the weekend, earning a 43-40 win over league rival White Pine. Fetterly netted 16 points and grabbed four rebounds and Gonzalez had eight points and two rebounds. Kaiden Slaybaugh contributed six points and four rebounds.
Battle Mountain is home this weekend to host a two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Longhorns close out the calendar year with home games against Incline (Dec. 20) and North Tahoe (Dec. 21).
Battle Mountain begins 2020 with home games against rival Pershing County on Friday, Jan. 3 and Silver Stage on Saturday, Jan. 4.
